Earlier this year Asilia Africa became the first Safari/Lodge Company in Africa to achieve a 5 Star GIIRS Sustainability Rating and was recognized at the World Travel Awards as Tanzania's Leading Tented Safari Camp for 2012. In light of this recognition Asilia also received the opportunity to present their philosophy and approach to sustainable tourism at the first Pan-African conference about Sustainable Tourism in African National Parks in Arusha on October 15-18 2012.

Although very proud of these accomplishments, everyone at the Asilia team vows to continue to provide their guests with excellent safari experiences that create a lasting positive impact on both the natural habitats and the lives of the people in the areas they operate in.

Founded in Arusha in 2004 by a team of Tanzanian and International entrepreneurs, Asilia has grown into a leading upmarket tourism company, employing over 500 staff in Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. Asilia operates a portfolio of nine camps and lodges in Tanzania and Kenya, with a central support infrastructure based in Arusha. 

Since 2010 Sustainable Travel International has been working with Asilia on their Sustainability through their involvement in the Sustainable Tourism Education Program (STEP). As an organization focused on assisting tourism providers develop and receive recognition for becoming more responsible we are very happy to learn about all of the recent positive press they and their work has garnered.
